Where are the brackets placed?

The mailbox brackets are placed under your mailbox.  They are not attached in any way to your mailbox.  The brackets come with pre-drilled mounting holes along with appropriate screws.  Just as your mailbox is screwed to a wall, so are the brackets.  This way, the brackets can be mounted at whatever spacing you prefer below your mailbox.  Besides including brass screws for wood based walls, masonry screws are also provided for brick type walls.
